Students will have Current Health Issues on Tuesday's.

Yearly Objectives:

·Students will perform a variety of exercises to help improve flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance. ·Students will be able to execute basic skills needed to play a variety of team sports and activities.

·Students will be able to show a basic understanding of rules and scoring for all games and activities.

·Students will be able to showcase the ability to work together in a group or as a team toward a common goal.


*** Egg Project will begin today!


Overview: The purpose of this project is to allow the students to experience some of the responsibilities that are involved not only in the care of human “babies”, but also parenting itself. Prior to the distribution of blown out eggs, students will be assigned different roles as far as jobs, martial status and place of residency. They will research wages according to job descriptions, housing, medical expenses and an itemized budget for the baby’s needs (i.e. food, diapers, medical services, food, etc.) The following guidelines are given for the success of this guideline.

Objectives:

1. Students will be able to express in writing feelings and conditions of being a parent on a daily basis.

2. Students will be able to express positive and negative experiences in writing at the end of the project.

3. Students will be able to identify responsibilities that parents have in taking care and raising children.

4. Students will be able to describe the process of preparation in planning and creating their “egg” human babies.

6th, 7th, 8th Physical Education

6th Grade Students will have Physical Education class for the remaining 3 weeks of school.

Weeks 1-9 :

6th and 7th Grade: Second Term:

Students will be participating in the Marine Physical Fitness Test to begin the school year. A Pre-test and Post-test will be given. This test is composed of 6 events:

- One Mile Run (Outside Event)

- 50-Yard Dash (Outside Event)

- 2 Minute Sit-up Test

- Push-ups

- Pull-ups

- Standing Long Jump

* Each event is worth 100 points towards the test. A maximum of 600 points can be awarded. Anyone that receives 450 points or more will be given a certificate and recognized at the awards ceremony at the end of the year. This test is graded strictly on EFFORT, and NOT the amount of points earned in each event.


***STUDENTS ARE TO BE PREPARED FOR OUTDOOR WEATHER AT ALL TIMES.

All Students:

-Students will begin the manipulative unit of Softball.

Skills Taught:
- Throwing
- Catching
- Fielding
- Hitting

*Sideline games will be used throughout the fall as we entertain the weather. Sideline games include: football, frisbee, hand-ball, soccer, and basketball.

*Cooperative games and the Fitness Center will be used throughout the semester as a change of pace activity. These games enforce teamwork, sportsmanship, communication, problem solving, and strategy. These games include: Amazing Race, Mat ball, Scooter Hockey, American Gladiators, Battleship, and Hot Lava.

FITNESS DAY: Once A Week! Students will cycle through a variety of fitness stations.

Showers are Encouraged! More than enough time will be given.

- Current Health Magazines will also be used throughout the year.

NUTRITION SERIES: 4 Friday's will be devoted to a guest speaker from Excela Health regarding Nutrition. Below are the topics of discussion.

- “Healthy Habits … A to Z”
* This class uses the “Healthy Habits … A to Z” handout, with a
newly designed power point slide show, food models and props to
introduce 26 nutrition, lifestyle, and activity tips for overall good health.

- “Heart Attack and Stroke Awareness”
* This class will feature a “guest” speaker, Darlene Nagrosky, RN, who will do a presentation on the above mentioned topic.

- “The Importance of Eating Breakfast”
* This class takes a close look at the most important meal of the day, breakfast. It will focus on what breakfast is, what happens when it is skipped, what happens when it is eaten, and what are the best choices. Label reading and nutrients will be introduced. Penn Trafford breakfast menu items will be discussed and evaluated.

- “What You Drink Matters”
* This class will examine various beverages for nutritional quality. It will look at the link between beverages and health and discuss strategies to improve beverage choices.
