7th GRADE PHYSICAL EDUCATION

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLOTHING consists of a white t-shirt, shorts / sweat pants, socks, and athletic shoes. These items MUST comply with the school dress code outlined in the student handbook.


Lessons are subject to change depending on the school schedule and the weather.
General Objectives:

  • Students will perform a variety of exercises to help improve flexibility, muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance.
  • Students will be able to execute basic skills needed to play a variety of individual and team sports and activities.Students will show an understanding of rules and scoring for all games and activities.
  • Students will display the ability to work together in a group or as a team toward a common goal.

March 5-9: Students will continue the good work in the fitness room by completing 2 new stations, one on Monday and one on Friday. Tuesday - Thursday students will be in their handball teams participating in tournament style games.

March 12-16: Students will work in the fitness room on Monday and Friday. Students will not need their clothes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, this schedule change is due to the PSSA testing schedule.

March 19-23: Students will continue to improve their fitness levels by working in the fitness room following their work out chart and personal goals on Monday and Friday. Tuesday - Thursday, students will participate in games of Kickball, either in or out of doors. They will concentrate on cooperation, strategy and fun!

March 26-30: Students will begin a practice jog for a timed mile, and other fitness tests. They Kickball game in or out doors weather permitting.

April 2-4: Students will practice time the mile.

April 11-13: Students will begin soccer in or outdoors, weather depending, and focus on soccer specific skills of passing, dribbling, and shooting, along with team play. They will continue their progress in the fitness room.

April 16-20: Students will practice their jogging and complete warm ups, and play wiffle ball in or outdoors weather dependent.

April 23-27: Students will practice their jogging for distance in preparation for the Penn Trafford Middle Schools 5K Event on Friday April 27th. They will jog and walk the track during class using ipods and mp3 players for motivation logging the number of laps completed each day.

April 30 - May 4: Students will participate in lead up activities for flag football, focusing on passing, receiving, kicking and punting.

May 7-11: Students will participate in flag football games, weather depending, and lead up football games if class is indoors.

May 14-18: Students will participate in ultimate frisbee utilizing throwing, catching and team work.

May 21-25: Students will have their choice of summer activities to participate in. Frisbee, football, soccer, bagg-o, horse shoes, volleyball, badminton, etc...

If you choose to purchase please send in the money for you desired package / pictures, if NOT please return the pictures to your child's homeroom teacher. By Friday May 18th it is that simple. **************************Penn Trafford Middle School 5K***************


On April 27th the Penn Middle School Student Body participated in a 5K walk/jog/run event at Bushy Run Park. Our students did an outstanding job!!! All students completed the 5K (3.2 miles) in under 1 hour!!!!! For many students this was their first experience at a distance event, and completing the course in under an hour is fantastic!!! GREAT JOB TO ALL STUDENTS!!! Here are some event results:

8TH GRADE HEALTH CLASS


March 6, 8 & 9: Students will begin a unit on AIDS by writing a short essay on their knowledge of the subject on Tuesday. Students will explore the text to define vocabulary terms on Thursday and host the 2nd series from the Blackburn Center on Friday.


March 13, 15 & 16: Students will complete the definition of terms associated with AIDS on Tuesday and Thursday. Friday, students will participate in the 3rd presentation from the Blackburn Center.


March 20, 22 & 23: Students will review "What I know about AIDS", turn in vocabulary terms, and review wellness and decision making on Tuesday, for homework students will use the decision making steps to solve a personal problem. Thursday students will begin to view a power point on AIDS and discuss several issues viewed in the power point. Friday students will have the 3rd Blackburn presentation.


March 27, 29, & 30: Students will complete a power point on AIDS information on Tuesday, and will host a guest Speaker, Mrs. Stano form Lifeway on Thursday, and the 4th lesson from the Blackburn Center on Friday.

April 3: Students will participate in the final presentation from Mrs. Stano of the Lifeway Pregnancy Center on Abstinence.


April 12: Students will complete the in class assignment on AIDS, using the in class booklet on page 24: vocabulary #1-10, page 25: review #1-10, and application #1-3. assignment is due at the end of class. Students will begin a crossword puzzle utilizing vocabulary terms and a "finish the statement" worksheet.


April 17, 19 & 20: Students will complete a Web Quest on STD/STI's in class utilizing i-pads. On Friday students will host the Blackburn Center as a guest speaker.

April 24 & 26: Students will view a video presentation by Pam Stinzel on AIDS and STD's on Tuesday and continue the presentations from the Blackburn Center on Thursday.


April 30, May 1, & May3: Students will have the 7th of 8 Blackburn presentations on Monday April 30th, view the second half of Pam Stenzel's video on waiting on Tuesday, and review STD/STI on Thursday.


May 8 & 10: Students will complete the in class worksheet review and begin male and female reproductive systems / pregnancy.


May 15 & 16: Students will complete a worksheet on male/female reproductive systems/pregnancy and begin self assessment on STD, AIDS and male/female reproduction and pregnancy.


May 21: Students will have the final session with the Blackburn Center completing all 8 lessons. This is also the last Health class for the year. All late work is due by Thursday May 24th.

March 5 & 7: Students will utilize the fitness room on Monday continuing to challenge their personal goals recorded on their workout chart. Wednesday students will participate in tournament style team handball games, focusing on team work, and game specific skills.

March 12 & 14: Students will utilize the fitness room on Monday and will NOT need their clothes on Wednesday, due to a special schedule for PSSA testing.

March 19 & 21: Students will continue the progress on their personal fitness, by following their workout charts toward their fitness goals. Wednesday students will participate in a game of kickball outside, if the weather permits, if not we will play indoors.

March 26, 28 & 30: Students will begin to measure their progress in the fitness room by participating in voluntary fitness testing on Monday. Wednesday and Friday, students will continue their kickball unit.

April 2, & 4: Students will work on their personal fitness goals on Monday in the fitness room and their running goal on Wednesday on the track completing 4 laps.

April 11: Students will begin playing soccer by participating in a practice game. Based on their skill level, skills will be reviewed in the following classes.

April 16 & 18: Students will participate in the fitness room working on strength, core strength, and cardiovascular levels on Monday. Students will continue the soccer unit with new teams on Wednesday.

April 23 & 25: Students will practice their jogging for distance in preparation for the Penn Trafford Middle Schools 5K Event on Friday April 27th. They will jog and walk the track during class using ipods and mp3 players for motivation logging the number of laps completed each day.

May 2 & 4: Students will have their choice of outdoor activities to participate in, focusing on having summer fun!

May 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, & 23: Students will participate in outdoor play types of games. Bagg-o, horse shoes, frisbee, bocce, etc...

6th GRADE HEALTH CLASS

Health Classes will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, in room 216.



March 5 & 7: Students will review their review/test completed last week in class on Monday and begin Partner Power on Wednesday to test their knowledge of the Skeletal system.

March 12, 14 & 16: Students will have a guest speaker form the Blackburn Center on Monday and Friday. This is a change from our normal schedule, but a necessary one due to the PSSA testing schedule. Students will be in room 216 on Wednesday, and the class time is approximately 13 minutes long. There will not be any health homework this week.

March 19 & 21: Students will have the guest speaker from the Blackburn Center this week for lessons 2 & 3. The final lesson will be on March 29th.

March 26, 28 & 29: Students will begin a series of nutrition lessons hosted by Excela Health on Monday, and continue on Wednesday and will have the final lesson from the Blackburn Center on Thursday March 29th.

April 2 & 4: Students will have the 3rd nutrition lesson from Excela Health and will begin the muscular system on Wednesday by Thinking, Pairing, and Sharing a diagram of the major muscles of the body.

April11: Students will review the skeletal and muscular system by viewing a power point on the function and structures of the systems.

April 16 & 18: Students will participate in the 4th nutrition lesson from Excela Health on Monday the 16th and will complete the power point presentation on the skeletal and muscular system on Wednesday the 18th.

April 23 & 25: Students will complete written assessments on the skeletal system on Monday and muscular systems on Wednesday.

April 30 & May 2: Students will review the skeletal and muscular system tests and view a power point on dangers and laws of tobacco and begin an anti-tobacco poster campaign.

May 7 & 9: Students will turn in an ad or article on tobacco, on Monday and complete a written worksheet on their ad / article. They will begin work on their Anti-Tobacco poster that is due at the end of class on Wednesday.

May 14 & 16: Students will complete a review of the tobacco unit, answering 5 short answer questions on Monday and begin the alcohol unit by defining terms related to alcohol. Wednesday students will view a power point on the dangers of alcohol use.

May 21 & 23: Students will work on an Alcohol Awareness Poster during class on Monday citing the dangers of Alcohol. The posters are due on Wednesday, May 23rd.

February 28, March 1 & 2: Students will continue the use of the fitness room, on Friday, recording their progress on a workout chart. Tuesday & Thursday students will participate in games of team handball concentrating on utilizing skills specific to handball.

March 6, 8 and 9: Students will continue the tournament of team handball on Tuesday and Thursday and utilize the fitness room exploring a new station and recording their results on their workout sheet.

March 13 & 15: Students will not need to change for Physical Education this week, they will meet in the gym on Tuesday and Thursday only, Friday they will meet in 216 for a presentation from the Blackburn Center. This change is due to the PSSA testing schedule.

March 20, 22, & 23: Students will continue to improve their fitness levels by working in the fitness room following their work out chart and personal goals on Friday. April 12 & 13: Students will begin a unit on soccer by reviewing the basic skills of passing, dribbling and shooting. They will continue their progress in the fitness room on Friday.

April 17, 19 & 20: Students will prepare for the 5K event by jogging a mile (5 laps) to begin class and then participate in games of wiffle ball.

April 24 & 26: Students will practice their jogging for distance in preparation for the Penn Trafford Middle Schools 5K Event on Friday April 27th. They will jog and walk the track during class using ipods and mp3 players for motivation logging the number of laps completed each day.

May 1, 3 & 4: Students will begin practice on the skill needed for flag football. They will focus on passing, receiving, kicking and punting. Friday students will need just athletic shoes, due to shortened classes for the early dismissal.

May 8, 10 & 11: Students will begin games of flag football, weather depending. If inclement weather, we will play football lead up games in the gym.

May 15, 17 & 18: Students will begin practice throwing and catching the frisbee in a lead up to playing games of ultimate frisbee.

May 22, 24 & 25: Students will have their choice of summer activities to participate in: frisbee, football, volleyball, badminton, horse shoes, bagg-o, etc...
