8th Grade Health


HEALTH is completed for this year! All grades are in powerschool. The egg projects will be handed back on Monday the 21st. If you have any questions, please email me asap.

Objectives:

Students will be able to list the rules, guidelines and expectations for health this quarter.

Students will be able to understand the expectations of the "Egg Project."

Students will be able to define the grading rubrics that is for the "Egg Project.""

Students will be able to list and discuss the responsibilities of being a parent.

This year we are implementing the Olweus Bullying Program. We expect the students to know, understand and follow the Bullying expectations.

6th Grade Health


Health classes have concluded for the year!! All grades are in powerschool, including the 5 bonus points for early projects. If you have any questions, email me asap.

Students will be able to discuss what characteristics make a loyal friend

6th, 7th and 8th Grade PE

Thank you for all your help and cooperation through the 2012 Bushy Run 5K!! It was a great success!

Congratulations! All of the students did a great job!

Please be prepared to go outside at all times!!!

If the temperature is above 50 and not pouring raining we will be outside fitness testing and playing flag football.

Objectives:

· Students will perform a variety of exercises to help improve flexibility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.

· Students will be able to execute basic skills needed to play a variety of team sports and activities.

· Students will be able to show a basic understanding of rules and scoring for all games and activities.

· Students will be able to showcase the ability to work together as a team toward a common goal.


Students are to be prepared for outdoor weather at all times!!

Students will begin the semester with Marine Physical Fitness Testing. This includes the following 6 events

1. Mile run

2. 50 yard dash

3. Standing long jump

4. Pull-ups

5. Push-ups

6. 2 Minute Sit up test

7. BMI Testing

Introduction:Each class will begin with a series of stretches and warm-up activities including: jumping jacks, neck stretches, arm circles, tricep stretches, lunges, sit and reach, butterflies, sit ups, push ups and a 2 minute run. Attendance, excuses and medicals will be addressed at this time.

Students will continue to run 1 mile every other week on the treadmill and will log their mile time on the wall.

If outside, we will begin with softball. They will learn and practice throwing, catching and strategy through game like situations working on teamwork, cooperation and strategy. After practicing with their teams games will begin.

If inside:
Monday and Tuesday : side line games.
Wednesday - Friday: Fitness day and softball/frisbee
Skills, strategy and teamwork will be the focus of the lessons also.
Zumba and step classes will also be included within the various classes.

8th graders are expected to complete a 5K to pass PE for the year. They are allowed to complete this walk/run outside of school. If completed outside of school, they must bring in proof of their completion; ie bib number, shirt. If they don't complete the 5K outside of school, they will complete it the last couple weeks of class. Attached is a list of 5K races in the area. There are more, but here are a couple and their information.

Students who didn't complete the Bushy Run 5K or a 5K on their own will be pulled out in the next 2 weeks to complete the 5Kduring school hours.

Each student will be completing a mile on the treadmill at least once every other week and will be logging their time on the chart preparing them for the "Trafford Middle 5K on April 20th!
