MAGIC YEARS

Monday- National Geographic Video – From Conception to Birth

Tuesday- Return and review parenting test. Discuss N.G.V.

Wednesday- List the early signs of pregnancy. Assess the importance of medical care throughout the pregnancy.

Thursday- Identify and discuss possible discomforts and complications of pregnancy.

Friday- Coffee and News—Your topic for the current event this week is PREGNANCY. If you would like to enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate while we discuss current events, please bring your money on Thursday.

UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN

Monday- Explain why observation is important in the study of child development and compare subjective and objective observations.

Tuesday- Review chapter one materials for test on Wednesday

Wednesday- CHAPTER ONE TEST

Thursday- Identify typical changes in height, weight, proportion, and posture from ages one to three.

Friday-Video- The First Years Matter- Opera Series of Developmental Milestones

FOOD SCIENCE

Monday- Complete food safety review and complete mini quiz.

Tuesday- Discover why onions make you cry and techniques to prevent your eyes from tearing up when working with onions. LAB

Wednesday- Prepare French Onion Soup and Evaluate

Thursday- Discover and demonstrate why popcorn pops. LAB

Friday- Tasty Visions- Soda Comparison. Answer the question: does what you see influence what you taste?

TMS 7TH GRADE FCS

Monday and Tuesday- Compile lists of healthy foods and the food groups they belong with. Break into groups and create a personal MY Plate.

Wednesday- Complete and share My Plate

Thursday- Students will be introduced to portion distortion. LAB

Friday- Participate in a portion distortion on-line quiz.

WE WILL MEET ON TUESDAY THE 7TH OF FEBRUARY THIS WEEK. PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR OUR MEETING!

PJ PANTS WILL BE OUR PROJECT FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS. YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING SUPPLIES…

· 2 YARDS OF 100% COTTON OR FLANNEL MATERIAL (NO FLEECE OR SLIK!!)

· 1 YARD OF ELASTIC BANDING

MONDAY- Define the three tasks of parenting: physical care, nurturing and guidance.

TUESDAY- Powerpoint presentation – Why children misbehave and how to control with appropriate responses.

WEDNESDAY- Create an advertisement for parents!

THURSDAY- Video presentation- The Nanny

FRIDAY- Parenting Quiz

UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN

MONDAY- Explain the impact that heredity and environment each has on development. Create a Punnett square for your family.

TUESDAY- Describe how self-esteem and development are interrelated.

WEDNESDAY- Explain why observation is important in the study of child development and compare subjective and objective observations. Assignment complete 10 minute observation of child, using class guidelines.

THURSDAY- Test Review

FRIDAY- Chapter One Test

FOOD SCIENCE

MONDAY- Discover and dicuss food and kitchen safety. Complete food thermometer charts.

TUESDAY- Prepare broiled hamburgers using food safety guidelines and meat thermometers.

WEDNESDAY- Examine multiple foodborne illnesses. Discuss the who, what, where, when and whys.

THURSDAY- Prepare chicken stir-fry. Demonstrating kitchen and food safety, avoiding cross contamination. Meat thermometer skills will be evaluated.

FRIDAY- Eat and discuss.

TMS 7TH GRADE FCS

MONDAY and TUESDAY- Computer Lab- Analzye daily eating records. Enter information into the food tracker and evaluate your eating habits.

WEDNESDAY- Create two health goals for the remainder of the semester. Focus on setting realistic and achievable goals.

THURSDAY- Poriton Distotion Lab- Students will compare their personal serving sizes to the USDA recommended serving sizes.

FRIDAY- Participate in on-line quiz: Portion Distortion. Participate in on-line polling of serving sizes of the past and present.

*********TUESDAY SEWING CLUB***********Sewing Club meets every Tuesday immediately after school until 4:15. Please have a ride arranged ahead of time.

We will be making recycled pillows this week. You will need to bring an old throw pillow or stuffing, a large t-shirt, or sweater.
