Role Play Activity: In groups, have students choose a scenario from a box. Create a skit based on the scenario using empathetic statements. Students should show a poor way to handle the situation and then a good scenario using effective communication skills. If time permits, begin presentations.

Finish presentations/Empathy Skits. Read page 7 on Developing Self-Control. Brainstorm additional strategies a person could take to maintain self control. Role Play Activity: In groups, have students choose a scenario from a box. Create a skit based on the scenario; the bad scenario should show the bad way to lose self-control and the good scenario should demonstrate strategies to maintain self-control in tough situations. If time permits, begin presentations.

LITERATURE/LANGUAGE ARTS

MONDAY

TUESDAY

Pass out final grade reports and bonus point certificates.

• LITERATURE: Allow students to review what they have prepared for their vocabulary skits. Pass back and go over chapter 3 questions to “The Gathering of the Knights.”

• GRAMMAR: Go over the HW from Friday: Pages 11--16 in Participle PK #2.

WEDNESDAY

• LITERATURE: Perform vocabulary skits. Read aloud chapter 4 “The Enchanting Ship” and complete the web on page 4 identifying the various characters constructing a plot line.

• GRAMMAR: Take the Participle Test.

THURSDAY

• LITERATURE: Finish any vocabulary skits. Review imagery. With a partner, complete the imagery handout locating examples from the first four chapters of King Arthur.

FRIDAY

• LITERATURE: Take the test on chapters 3 and 4. Define vocabulary for chapters 5 and 6.

• WRITING: Introduce the descriptive writing assignment. Review examples and go over the requirements. A rough draft is due Monday.

TUESDAY

Pass out final grade reports for the nine weeks. Maps of Rectanguland and of India/Southwest Asia are due. Set up practice map for tomorrow’s map test.

WEDNESDAY

Take the map test on India/Southwest Asia. Introduce Chapter 4 on India. Preview the chapter skimming the pictures and create KWL chart. HW: Read section 4.1 on “The Indus and Ganges River Valleys” (textbook pages 106—111). Complete study guide pages 1—4.

THURSDAY

Go over and discuss chapter 4.1 on “The Indus and Ganges River Valleys” study guide pages 1—4.

FRIDAY

As a class, label the physical map of India, identifying the location of the Himalayas, Indus River, Ganges River, etc. Read aloud the additional research notes on pages 4—6.

TUESDAY

Last class of Study Skills for the first semester students. Pass out final grade reports and complete class evaluations.

WEDNESDAY

New Cycle of Study Skills Students; Assign seats and go over class expectations. Review layout of the classroom and supply table. Model how to set-up/write in the homework planner. Set up name sticks.

THURSDAY

Read in the Study Skills books about Buddy Contacts. Distribute Buddy Contact Sheets. Students have one week to complete them. Set up partner sheets.

FRIDAY

Finish setting up partner sheets. Go over what group work “looks, sounds, and feels.” Create T-chart.

• LITERATURE: Discuss chapter 2 “Excalibur” and go over chap. 2 comprehension questions. Go over the vocabulary review on pages 5 -6. Play a review game reviewing content from chapters 1 and 2 and the vocabulary.

• SPELLING: Go over this week’s spelling list—words from King Arthur. Complete the spelling Tic-Tac-Toe assignment for Friday.

TUESDAY

• LITERATURE: Take the chapter 1 & 2 test on King Arthur. Define vocabulary for chapters 3 and 4. HW: Brainstorm 10 possible settings.

• GRAMMAR: Go over the HW: Verb Participle Pk #2---pages 5 through 9 and stopping on problem 50. HW: Complete pages 9 and 10 only!

WEDNESDAY No 6th period today due to bully meeting.

• LITERATURE: Go over the vocabulary skits that students will begin tomorrow with the substitute. Divide students into groups of 4 for the skits. HW: Read chapter 3 "The Gathering of the Knights" and complete chapter questions. • GRAMMAR: Go over HW: pages 9 and 10 in the Participle Packet #2.

THURSDAY

• LITERATURE: Collect Chapter 6 homework. To review vocabulary from chapters 3 and 4, students will prepare a skit based on a setting of their choice and incorporate the 5 parts of a plot. All the vocabulary words must be used in their dialogue. (Spill over into period 6.)

• SPELLING: Collect Spelling HW: Tic-Tac-Toe assignments.

FRIDAY

• LITERATURE: Continue preparing vocabulary skits for Tuesday’s presentations. HW: Read chapters 3 and 4 for Tuesday. Complete chapter question in study guide. • SPELLING: Take the spelling test.

WEDNESDAY

Finish the designing the map of Rectanguland. Introduce the map of India and Southwest Asia. Go over the pronunciations of countries the students will be labeling on the map. Begin labeling the countries and bodies of water. Both maps are due Friday.

THURSDAY

Continue working on maps of Rectanguland and of India/Southwest Asia.

FRIDAY

Create a practice map to study for Tuesday’s map test on India and Southwest Asia. Turn in the map of Rectanguland. HW: Read section 4.1 on “The Indus and Ganges River Valleys (textbook pages 106—111). Complete study guide pages 1—4.

Go over the employment test on the Subway job application. Discuss written responses to the four open-ended questions on the job application. Participate in “mock” interviews.

TUESDAY

Identify strategies for taking essay tests...pgs. 17 and 18. Participate in a team activity reviewing how to begin the essay test (pg. 19) by restating what the essay question is asking.

WEDNESDAY

Discuss the major components in writing a TEXXXI paragraph answering an open-ended question. TEAM CHALLENGE: In groups, students will collaborate and write a TEXXXI paragraph answering a question and compete for the TEXXXI Title.
