Mr. Lazaro's 8th Grade Classes:

These plans are general in nature and are not meant to be all inclusive. Dates are subject to change based upon need and student progress. Students are responsible for all missed work.

Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

Rule #1 - We will not bully others.

Rule #2 - We will try to help students who are bullied.

Rule #3 - We will try to include students who are left out.

Rule #4 - If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

Advanced Literature/Language Arts 8:

Literature 8 and Language Arts textbooks can be accessed on-line at https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com/snpapp/login/login.jsp.

SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) will be every Wednesday and Friday. Students are required to have a book to read on these days. No magazines, comic books, picture books, etc. All books must be age-appropriate and acceptable for school. Parents should be aware of the book their child is reading. The objective of SSR is to promote an individualized reading initiative. Students will be required to complete various novel study exercises that will be evaluated quarterly.

Vocabulary is essential for the growth of knowledge and critical reasoning. The vocabulary in this class will be cumulative. The student will be responsible for the vocabulary list in its entirety. The list will grow weekly by 10 - 15 words. At the end of every third lesson, there will be a exam where each student will demonstrate recognition of the vocabulary word by matching it with its definition. The tests will grow throughout the year to a limit of 120 words being tested. The most recent 30 words will appear on each test with a random selection of 90 of the previously examined words intermingled. By the end of the year, each student will have been exposed to and hopefully mastered the use of 300 vocabulary words.
