Science Fair Resources

Looking for some great science fair ideas and suggestions? Here are some websites that contain resources that could be a great help to you and your students:

You might also want to look at some of the great virtual science fairs that are available to schools: Virtual Science Fairs. Many teachers feel that because of the demands of the curriculum that there isn't time for a regular science fair especially if displays require travel or days out of school. The Virtual Science Fair allows students the opportunity to participate in a national competition without missing schools. The Google Science Fair (students 13-18), The Internet Science and Technology Fair (students grades 3-12), The National Association of Independent Schools Virtual Science Fair, and The Canada Wide Virtual Science Fair (grades K-12). Check them out at:

(Objective: 1. State Newton’s first law of motion and relate it to balanced and unbalanced forces.

2. Define inertia and relate it to Newton’s first law)

--notes on Newton's first law

QUIZ—NEWTON’S FIRST LAW--FRIDAY

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

(Objective: 1. go over worksheets. 2. Read and begin Cornell noting of C 2 L 3)

--review Newton's 1st law of motion, emphasize the fact that there are 2 parts (objects at rest and objects in motion--then clarify the objects in motion --if constant velocity, then forces balanced. If not constant velocity, then forces unbalanced)

--go over ws answers

--begin reading as a class, c2 L3, discuss information that is note worthy.

HOMEWORK: 1. define vocab c2 L3. 2. read and cornell note C2 L3. Bring a pair of socks tomorrow.

Thursday, November 17, 2011

(Objective: 1. State Newton’s second law of motion. 2. Explain how centripetal force causes circular motion)

--launch lab, centripetal force; identify forces acting.

·- Students compare the forces needed to speed up and slow down the ball. Measure the mass of each ball. Relate the force needed to move the ball (Alternative: use spring scales to measure the actual force required to move the balls place balls in bowl with reinforced hole)

·-Students will then write a statement relating force, mass, and acceleration

--notes on Newton’s second law

HOMEWORK: 1. Study for quiz (Newton’s first law) 2. worksheet (lesson outline, math practice,
