TISSUE BOX COVERS will be our next project. Students wishing to purchase a FAT QUARTER of fabric for the project may do so. Fabrics will be provided, but many students prefer their own special selection.

This week students will review the games played during the week of Junior Achievement. Students will have the opportunity to change their strategy and see how it will affect their outcome.
We will also explore various websites related to the various units in FCS.
8th Grade Crafts
Students will continue the construction of their fleece blankets. Blankets are to be completed by March 16. Students are permitted to work on blankets for homework.

This week students will be participating in the Junior Achievement program taught by volunteers in our community.
The JA program is developed with a emphasis on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness. JA also emphasizes mathematics, reading, and writing skills. Students will explore career interests and education.
8th Grade Crafts
Students will begin stitching around the fleece fabric using the blanket stitch.
Students are permitted to work on their blankets at home and over the weekend.

We are continuing drawstring bag construction. Students will attach the pocket to bag, divide the pocket, and join the two bag body pieces together.
Students will be able to demonstrate correct threading and control of the sewing machine.
Students will use the iron for pressing bag pieces throughout construction.
Construction steps will be graded throughout the week and marked on the grade sheet.
8th Grade Crafts

This week students will discuss the tools used in sewing. The students will complete a worksheet and a puzzle on this information.
Students will measure and draw the pattern symbols used in the construction of a drawstring bag. The students will demonstrate the use of graph paper and a ruler. After practicing on paper, the student will mark pattern symbols on the wrong side of each pattern piece.
Students will be given a grade sheet that is to be kept in their sewing bag. This grade sheet is not to leave the room until the project is completed.

Monday and Tuesday we will finish construction of the drink wrap.
Wednesday thur Friday we will work on the construction of a “tissue box cover”. Students may purchase 1 Fat Quarter of fabric for the project. Free fat quarters are available to the class.

Students will understand the location and the function of the sewing machine parts.
Students will be demonstrating the use of the ruler as they measure and draw the pattern markings on graph paper.

8th Grade “CRAFTS”
Students have demonstrated their ability to sew a four hole and a two hole button. Find those loose and missing buttons and put your 8th grader to work.
We are now going to begin various embroidery stitches that will be used throughout the semester. These will include the blanket stitch, running stitch, outline stitch and any special requests.
Students will apply these newly learned skills to prepare a “drink wrap”.
